Katherine Heigl: Naleigh ’100 Percent Fine’ After Open Heart Surgery

I never really liked her, but do so even less now, no matter if she she was joking or not.

When Katherine Heigl and husband Josh Kelley welcomed Naleigh last September, the couple explained that they were able to adopt their daughter faster because of her special needs. Revealed to be a congenital heart defect, it was repaired with open heart surgery before the baby girl left Korea. “Her heart is 100 percent ﬁne now. She has a scar, so she won’t be wearing bikinis, which is fine by us,” the Killers actress, 31, tells Harper’s Bazaar in their June cover story.

As someone with scars from multiple surgeries (including open heart surgery), I really hope that little girl grows up to appreciate her scar as a badge of survival and not something that needs to be covered up and hidden away as something “ugly.”
